Gunungan is a symbol of the world
and it's contents. It is always stuck in the midst of the screen every time
before the shadow play begins. When the play has begun, the Gunungan is
pulled out and stuck on the right side of the screen. Upon finishing the play
it is re-stuck to the former place, in the midst of the screen.
The pupetter often play this Gunungan
in describing win by swaying the Gunungan right and left as if there was
wind blowing. It is sometimes played when the pupetter wants to describe fire
by turning back the Gunungan to present the crimson or color and sometimes is
used to describe forest.
